How to Avoid Scams When Shopping Online in Morocco

Practical checks for buying safely on Moroccan marketplaces and classifieds: spotting fake listings, safe payment, meeting sellers and warranty traps.

Most bad experiences online in Morocco are avoidable. They follow a handful of very repeatable patterns.

Red flags in a listing

  • A price far below every other listing for the same model.
  • Stock photos instead of photos of the actual item.
  • The seller pushes you to WhatsApp immediately and refuses cash on delivery.
  • A request for a deposit by transfer before you see the product.

Safer payment habits

Prefer cash on delivery for classifieds, and card or official payment pages for retailers. Never send a wire transfer to an individual you have not met.

Meeting a seller

Meet in a busy public place during the day, test the item fully (charging, screen, IMEI for phones), and keep the conversation inside the platform so there is a record.

Let the tool do the filtering

chri.ma prefers official retailers when you ask for a new item, and only shows classifieds when you explicitly want used — which removes an entire category of risk.
