Temu made a fast entry into Moroccan shopping habits with very low headline prices. The headline price, however, is rarely the final price. Before you order, it helps to know exactly where the extra dirhams appear.
The three costs people forget
- Shipping: often free above a threshold, but slow standard delivery can take two to four weeks to Morocco.
- Customs and VAT: parcels above the duty-free threshold can be taxed on arrival, and the courier adds a handling fee.
- Returns: sending an item back abroad usually costs more than the item is worth, so a bad purchase is effectively final.
What Temu is genuinely good for
Small, light, low-risk items: phone accessories, kitchen gadgets, cables, storage boxes, craft supplies. If the item fails, you have not lost much, and shipping weight stays low.
What to buy locally instead
Anything you may need to return or repair: phones, laptops, appliances, anything with a warranty. A Marjane or Electroplanet receipt is worth real money the day something breaks.
A quick sanity check before ordering
Take the Temu price, add roughly 20 to 30 percent for tax and handling on larger orders, then compare with the same item on a Moroccan site. Surprisingly often, the gap closes.
