Buying a Used Phone in Morocco: The 10-Point Checklist

A used phone can be the best value on the Moroccan market — or an expensive mistake. Ten minutes of checks decide which.

Before you meet

• Ask for the exact model, storage and the IMEI number.
• Ask why it is being sold and how long it was used.
• Compare the asking price with new prices at Moroccan retailers.

During the inspection

• Check battery health (iPhone: Settings > Battery; Android: dialer diagnostics).
• Test every camera, both speakers, the microphone and all buttons.
• Look at the screen on a white background for dead pixels or burn-in.
• Confirm the phone is not iCloud or Google account locked.
• Insert your SIM and make a real call.
• Verify the IMEI is not blacklisted.
• Check the charging port with the seller's cable and your own.

Fair price rule of thumb

A phone in good condition, one to two years old, usually sells around 55-70% of its current new price in Morocco. Below 45% with no clear reason is a warning, not a bargain.
